It is early August and really beautiful here in the Midwest. The temperature and humidity are both just the way we like it – high. It is easy to warm up and break a sweat and the end of a workout really feels great.
We have several people in the gym here who travel regularly and they are always looking for exciting ways to challenge themselves when they are away from the gym. So we decided to give them a week of WODs that don’t require much equipment. After the regular strength and skill work all the workouts consisted of nothing other than bodyweight, a kettlebell, and/or a jumprope. Just a couple of items and you have got a portable gym for less than a hundred bucks. You can definitely challenge yourself with very few implements and in very little time. If you doubt us come in and we will see if we can make a believer out of you.

It has been a scorcher here in NW Ohio the last couple of weeks. That hasn’t slowed our athletes down one bit. In fact they may have ramped up the intensity. Check out the photos and see for yourself what hard work looks like!

We took a break for a little while from olympic lifting to concentrate on other things. It’s time to get our power quota back up to snuff. We’ll be concentrating on the snatch and the clean and jerk for a few weeks. Enjoy the pics from the last ten days or so.
Remember no class Monday July 5 in the evening. All other classes around the holiday will run as normally scheduled.

It was another great week at the gym. Our athletes knocked out a couple of benchmarks this week to check current levels of fitness and see where we need to fine tune our efforts. There was a lot of sweat put in and an equal amount of progress.

An update to our previous post. No evening class on Monday May 31 in honor of Memorial Day. Come in at 7AM or 8AM and enjoy the rest of your day!
First off we have to congratulate Matt and Joe Lengel who competed in the CrossFit Games Regional qualifiers this weekend. Both represented well and we’ll be keeping our eye on both of them for great things in the future.
Our athletes did lots of squats this week. They started off with goblet squats early in the week and followed with overhead squats, a max. front squat, and even air squats. Of course there were the usual olympic lifts, running, rowing, and gymnastic movements also. We had a couple of front squats over 300# and most folks lifted bodyweight or more. There are some really strong men and women here now and it’s really exciting.

For the last week of April we decided to do several benchmark WODs to check our clients’ progress. Every person that was in the gym in January has made huge progress in just 3 months. We started the week with Fran, tried on Nancy midweek, did a little rowing, and then ended the work week with 150 burpees and a max pushup. Check out the pics.
Don’t forget we will only be open for the 6AM and 7AM classes Friday May 6 and we will be closed Sat. May 7. Send some love out to Joe and Matt who are competing at the CrossFit Regionals this weekend.

Remember you should be striving to have more strength, speed, stamina, flexibility, balance, agility, power, cardiorespiratory endurance, accuracy, and coordination. All those elements are included in fitness – not just your ability to jog a couple of miles and/or bench press a ton of weight.

Our athletes completed a max deadlift late in the week that we just had to take pics of. It is likely that every member that came in Thursday increased their max deadlift. It was a crazy day with Craig pulling 530#, Marcus close behind with 525#, and Stephanie pulling 285# for the ladies! Our athletes are getting really strong and bringing tons of energy to the gym.
Those same athletes knocked out a WOD later including double unders, pullups, and pushups. An easy 90% of all the people in the gym can now complete all 3 of those movements without scaling. It is just amazing to see our ladies knocking out pullups and our bigger guys (our thoroughbreds know who they are) doing the same and banging out double unders.

We are settled in the new facility now and solidly down to business. It has been a while since we posted so we thought we would include photos from the last week or so. It was a typical week with lots of olympic lifting, powerlifting, running, rowing, and crushing workouts.
Now that 3 months have passed since the new year came in how are you coming on your goals? Hopefully you have accomplished some of those goals you set and you have set some new ones. This is a good time to review your gains and see where you are at. If you aren’t setting short term goals you are doing yourself a disservice.
Take some time and be honest with where you are at and what you suck at. Take a couple of months and concentrate on those things and it is guaranteed that you will see improvement. If you avoid those things that are difficult it is highly unlikely that you will get better at them. Pretty common sense stuff.

We’re working out in the new space alongside Toledo Jiu Jitsu now. We’ve still got a few odds and ends to complete but you’ll find the same type of challenging workouts you did at the old gym. We are really excited and think this place will meet our needs far better than the last location.
We’ve included photos of our last group to work out at the Airport Hwy. location as well as a few from the inaugural Fight Gone Bad from Monday. We think the workout was a good omen as several siginificant PRs were achieved. Come see us at the new location!

We will be having classes at the new location on Monday March 1st. The last class at the Airport location will be Friday Feb. 26 at 6PM. We will be closed over the weekend to move.
The new location for the gym is 537 S. Reynolds Rd. It is about a half mile north of Airport Hwy. on the east side of Reynolds Rd. It will be located in the Jesse James Plaza. If have any problems finding it give us a call at 419-708-9187. We look forward to seeing you all there.
